1. Make sleep a priority.

Students have so many things that distract their attention from sleep. There are classes (complete with homework), campus events, outreach, assignments, parties, and more that compete with the need for a good night's sleep. However, sleep is an essential part of self-care. My first self-sufficiency tip for college students is to make sleep a priority.

I know there are times when you may need to stay overnight for a test, but if you get enough sleep regularly you will see an increase in your clarity and overall performance.

2. Don't skip meals.

It can be difficult to set meal times as you fit into your schedule. However, your body needs food to keep going. Be sure to include time to eat in your daily routine. If it is very difficult to enter a coffee shop, takeappetizerslike fruit, nuts, or granola bars in your pocket so you can take them with you wherever you go.

If you don't have money to buy food, many college campuses have food supplies to help combat food insecurity among college students. Contact someone if you need groceries.

3. Manage your time.

Traveling solo for the first time can be overwhelming. For the past 18 years of his life, he has had someone help him manage his time. It's very different when you're at school. A phone call is nice, but sometimes seeing your loved one is just what you need to get you over the hill until you can visit family.

If you are having a particularly difficult day, call a friend or family member and remind yourself that you have people who love and support you on this journey.

As a student, it's important to make authentic connections that have a positive impact on your life. To make quality connections, make a list of the people you want to reach. I have been to various college campuses and have seen students outside on the campus grounds and insidenets. There is no denying that when I see college students on campus, they look happy and smiling. Because there is a direct connection between fresh air and improved mood. Grab your books and go study abroad or chat with friends!

10. Join a club or organization.

Most college campuses have several different clubs and organizations that students can join. These organizations can be a source of self-care for college students. Explore the opportunities your campus offers and visit some of the ones that interest you. Decide which organizations you belong to, but be careful not to overwhelm yourself by choosing too many.

11. Seek professional counseling or therapy.

Taking care of your mental health is part of self-care. sometimes you have toseek professional helpto control symptoms of anxiety or depression that may arise as a result of university pressures. Some cases of anxiety and depression are mild and can be controlled with exercise, sleep, meditation, and the like. However, there may be times when you need to seek help from a psychologist.

Most college students don't have mom and dad on their backs when they're at school about their personal hygiene. But it's still very important to continue the good hygiene practices that parents have learned over the years.

Washing hands, showering regularly, maintaining good oral health, cleaning hair and nails, and washing clothes and sheets regularly are some of the many hygiene tasks college students are expected to perform on a regular basis. While it's important to practice good hygiene every day, it's especially important when you're feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

Don't be tempted to neglect proper hygiene. This is not a good habit. Taking care of the physical body is a great self-care practice.

Technology is great, but it can also be counterproductive for personal care. College students spend a lot of time using technology for work and class projects, so it's important to take time to relax.

During periods of high stress, college students should try to get rid of their devices an hour before bed and try not to answer the phone first thing in the morning. Set social media timers so you don't get too caught up in social media shenanigans.

Balancing all the commitments of a college student can be stressful and overwhelming. It is important to set and enforce boundaries in your life. There are so many distractions and outside influences that it can make it hard for you to focus on yourself and your needs. Being a young adult is tough. There is a lot to learn about how to navigate life. Some people have made mistakes that can teach you a lesson so that you don't have to make the same mistakes.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned as an adult is that it's okay not to know everything. I also learned that wit is an excellent quality. So if you don't know something, build the confidence to ask for help. This can save you unnecessary headaches and stress.
